My name is Burt Savage, and I have been a teacher for over 30 years. The first 17 years were spent as a grade seven and eight Design and Technology teacher. Then I became a junior elementary school teacher (grades 4-6) at Ecole Lundy’s Lane School in Kingston Ontario, when the design and technology program was phased out in the early 1990’s. Using my experience as a technology teacher and my skill as a cabinetmaker, I have made or modified all the furniture in my classroom. In addition, I have constructed all my tool cabinets and have set up ten computers in my classroom, one of which is devoted to this site. The site is used by my students to check their daily agenda, and by their parents to view short and long range classroom work. I also have sections for individual student testimonials, design and technology teaching tips and projects that my students enjoy making. I use an instructional approach in my classroom and teach my students general learning skills through the projects they are designing and constructing.  I am specific about which age appropriate project they are going to make, but I design flexible projects that will allow the students to be creative. My students have to use project-shared reading, writing and solve math problems, while doing a project, which helps them develop their literacy and numeracy skills. As the students become more skillful through progressively difficult projects, they become more confident,  independent,  self-sufficient and  more responsible. If you have any comments, suggestion or questions about the site please contact me at burtsavage@gmail.com .
